A serendipity Frozen Hot Chocolate recipe in a glass topped with whipped cream and chocolate shavings.

We make Frozen Hot Chocolate on repeat all summer long.

That's not an exaggeration, and our frozen hot chocolate is every bit as delicious as the original (from Serendipity in NYC) but super easy and inexpensive to make from home. We use real melted chocolate for the best rich chocolate flavor (be sure to buy high quality chocolate since it's the star of the show). You can use any type of milk for iced hot cocoa (or non-dairy milk), but the higher fat milk with make a creamier drink. I love that I always have the ingredients to make this!

How to make Frozen Hot Chocolate:

Make Chocolate Mixture: Chop the chocolate into small pieces and melt in the microwave on half power, stirring every 20 seconds, until melted. Stir in sugar, cocoa powder, and salt. Slowly whisk in ½ cup milk, whisking constantly until smooth.

Blend: Pour chocolate mixture into a blender with remaining 1 cup milk and 1 cup ice cubes. Blend until smooth. Add additional ice if you want it thicker. Pour into glasses and serve immediately, topped with fresh whipped cream and chocolate shavings, if desired.

Notes

Chocolate: the higher the cocoa content the richer the flavor will be.  I use Guittard, Bakers or Ghirardelli baking chocolate bars.
Milk: higher fat milk will make a creamier dessert. Dairy free milk can be substituted.
