I make this easy Ranch Dressing recipe every week.

Once I started making my own ranch dressing, I couldn't go back to the bottled stuff. The difference is that dramatic (store-bought ranch tastes flat and artificial in comparison). Plus it's cheaper to make yourself, and better for you. And my kids devour veggies when they can dip them in homemade ranch. You can adjust how thick you want it, so whether you are dipping crispy chicken wings, or want it thinner for a wedge salad or a pizza drizzle.

Ditch the expensive store-bought bottles and make your own sauces, like Homemade Salsa, Shrimp Cocktail Sauce, Ricotta Cheese, BBQ Sauce, Teriyaki Sauce, or Hot Fudge!

How to make Homemade Ranch Dressing:

Combine: In a mixing bowl, stir together mayonnaise, sour cream, vinegar, and all of the seasonings. Gradually add the buttermilk while you stir until you've reached your desired consistency. Refrigerate for at least one hour before serving then keep in the refrigerator for up to 1 week. Enjoy homemade ranch on a salad, buddha bowl, sweet pork burrito bowl, homemade breadsticks, pizza, veggies, or chicken wings!

Notes

Yield: About 2 cups Ranch Dressig. Serving Size: ⅓ cup.
How to Store Ranch Dressing: Check the expiration on your dairy ingredients to get the best idea for how long to store your homemade ranch dressing. It should stay fresh for about 2 weeks in the refrigerator.
Flavor Variations:
  • Add tang: Squeeze a little citrus (orange, lemon, or lime) for extra tangy flavor.
  • Bacon: Add ¼ cup of bacon crumbles.
  • Cheese: Add ¼ cup freshly grated parmesan cheese
  • Cilantro Ranch Dressing: Add ½ bunch of cilantro and 1 tomatillo and add all ingredients to a food processor. Blend until smooth.
  • Jalapeño Ranch Dressing: add 1 jalapeño pepper (seeds removed for milder spice) and blend all ingredients in food processor until smooth.
  • No buttermilk?  Either make your own, or if you prefer ranch without buttermilk, leave out the buttermilk and add a little more mayo or yogurt, with a splash of milk.
  • Dairy-free/Vegan Ranch Dressing: Substitute vegan mayo in place of mayonnaise and Greek yogurt and substitute almond milk (mixed with about 1 tsp of lemon juice) in place of buttermilk.
